Amarnath is considered to be as one of major Hindu Dhams. The sacred and sanctified cave is the dwelling of the divine trinity, Lord Shiva.
The Parable behind Amarnathji
The holy cave of Amarnath is a place where Shiva lord accounted the secret of immortality, Amar Katha along with his better half Parvati. Shiva was reluctant in the beginning but finally gave in.Shiva was keen on revealing the mystery in a place of remoteness away from any existence and thus chose the cave of Amarnath. In groundwork, Shiva never even took his Nandi (the Bull), which he was traveling at in Pahalgam. At Chandanwari, he freed the moon from his hair and on the edge of Lake Sheshnag, he unconfined the snakes. In the end, Shiva and Parvati cross the threshold of the Amarnath Cave where he commenced meditation on a deerskin. He then related the Amar Katha to Parvati. Unknowingly, couples of mating doves were listening to this conversation and came to know about the secret. Taking birth again and again, they have made the cave their everlasting residence.
The Legend
The tale related by people related to the unearthing of this sacred Cave is of a shepherd Buta Malik. The fable is like this, that a saint gave Buta Malik a sack full of Coal. When he reached his home and as soon as he opened the sack, to his revelation the sack was filled with gold coins. This made him over delighted with happiness. He went back to the same place to thank the Saint. But he could not find the saint; instead he witnessed The Holy Cave and Shiva Lingam at that same place. From then on it has turned out to be the sanctified place of Pilgrimage.
The earliest epics relate an other story which goes happens to be like this. The valley of Kashmir was completely under water. It was a big waterbody. Kashyap Rishi exhausted the water by the way of number of rivers and rivulets. In those days Bhrigu Rishi was wandering in the Himalayas, it was he who had the first Dishpans of this sacred Cave. When other people came to know about Lingam, Amarnath for them came to be known as Shiva's residence and a sacred place of pilgrimage for Hindus. Since then thousands of devotees from all over the world perform the pilgrimage through rough and dangerous environment and gain everlasting contentment.
Climate
The climatic situation of Amarnath is very tentative. Rain or snowfall may occur at any place at any time during the Amarnath Yatra. It is to be kept in mind that unexpected changes in temperature might take place. Sunny weather may twist into rain and snow fall in a very short span of time. The temperature at times go up to -5 degree C.
